Textile Crafts - Sewing Crafts - Felt Handbag for Kids
Our bear is excited to to go to town with her bright and cheerful handbag. This bag is great for youngsters to hold their tissues and small belongings. It also makes a perfect bag for toy dolls and stuffed animals for playtime. Either way it is fun for mothers or grandmothers to sew. Felt has the advantage that it is durable and does not fray. If you would like to create a larger version, it is no problem. Adjust the size of the front and back pieces according to your needs and following the sewing instructions for the small bag.

For this project you will need:

- sewing machine
- yellow sewing thread

- ruler
- daisy button or your choice of button

- Yellow textile felt (4mm thick - 0.6
  inches):

- 2 pieces 14cm long and 11 cm wide (5.6 x
  4.4 inches)
- 1 strip measuring 13 cm long and 2.5 cm
  wide (5.2 x 1 inch)
- 2 strips measuring 24 cm long and 1.5 cm
  wide (9.6 x 0.6 inches)

Instructions:

1. Cut the above listed pieces out of yellow or your choice of felt.
2. Lay the two bag pieces together. To give the bag a bottom so it will stand, follow steps 3-11 of this tutorial
> How to sew a bag.
3. Now your front and back pieces are finished and you need to add the handles. Take the two 24 cm long and 1.5 cm wide strips and pin each end 2.5 cm or 1 inch evenly inside of the bag as handles (2 ends inside the front side of the bag and 2 ends inside the back side of the bag). Sew the strips securely in place.
4. To add the closing flap, measure your button and create a button hole on one end of the flap strip.
5. Find the center of the bag and attatch the other end of the flap strip to the outside of the back side and sew in place.
